All works were created at the Harvestworks studio and presented in the Harvestworks Art and Technology Program on Governors Island during the summer of 2024.
- Tansy Xiao’s LUCA (Last Universal Common Ancestor) is a non-linear virtual environment that adopts a non-anthropocentric approach. Streaming real-time biometric data from performers' movements, brain activity, and bioprocess data from living microbiomes such as slime mold and yeast into the virtual ecosystem, LUCA explores the collective agency and interconnectivity among diverse living entities.
- Adelle Lin and Matt Pinner’s Star Catcher is an immersive installation that encourages participants to engage with their environment in a playful and imaginative manner. Using projection and magical objects, the installation creates a simulated night sky, brimming with an ethereal constellation of stars that participants can "catch." Blurring the line between audience and performer, participants become symbolically connected to the power of imagination and the wonder of the universe.
- Monica Duncan and Senem Pirler’s Tears for Lost Frequencies is a performative installation that explores our complex relationship with plastic through the act of improvisation. The artists aim to highlight plastic as a material that cannot be separated from the “natural”: a substance that is everywhere and is becoming both our “nature” and our “uninvited” collaborator. In Tears for Lost Frequencies, microplastics found in tears become material witnesses to the experience of hearing loss and a speculative space for plastic healing.
- Victoria Vesna’s [SUN] Flower Waves explores the harmonious interaction between sunflowers and Alfvén waves, demonstrating how art and science converge to reveal deeper understandings. Sunflowers, with their heliotropic movement, symbolize growth and energy, while Alfvén waves in plasma transport energy along magnetic field lines—crucial for understanding space weather and solar phenomena.
