Happy 20th Birthday to Salma, our yellow-backed duiker! 💛
Today we’re celebrating a truly golden milestone: Salma is turning 20 years old, officially making her one of the oldest yellow-backed duikers living in an AZA-accredited facility! 🌟
To mark the occasion, her dedicated animal care team crafted a special birthday cake filled with her favorite goodies: apple and oat biscuit, applesauce, banana, cantaloupe, and blackberries. 🍎🍌🍈🫐
As a senior, Salma is a great example of the expertise and individualized care our animals receive. Her wellness routine includes voluntarily participating in daily physical therapy, weekly laser treatments, biweekly acupuncture, hoof care—and lots of love from her care team. ❤️
She also enjoys life alongside some fascinating feathered friends, including Wazowski, the one-eyed grey-crowned crane, and two charismatic hornbills, Bunsen and Merry.
