Baby on board...literally! 🐸 Did you know that male Anthony’s poison arrow frogs care for the young?
After a female lays her eggs in leaf litter on the forest floor, the male takes over caring for the eggs. Male frogs guard the clutch, protect it from predators, and keep the eggs moist for up to two weeks. Once the tadpoles hatch, dad carefully carries them on his back to a nearby water source, where they’ll continue the metamorphosis stages on their own.
One of the arrow frog dads at DZCA was recently spotted doing exactly that, with tadpoles hitching a ride on his back! Check it out in our latest Baby Bulletin, presented by Intermountain Health.
