In 2014, an anonymous hacker became absolutely furious after a documentary came out about SeaWorld’s inhumane treatment of animals. To the hacker, it was simple: animals deserved respect and protection, especially since they couldn’t speak out or defend themselves.
So the hacker teamed up with 4Chan’s Anonymous and decided to infiltrate SeaWorld’s systems in revenge for what they had done. Quickly, the site would go offline. But the hacker made a massive mistake; he accidentally forgot to turn off the attack, leaving it on for weeks.
SeaWorld was in an all-out panic; their websites weren’t working, so guests couldn’t book any trips, and no matter what they did to bring them back online, it would result in failure. In desperation, they decided to hire cyber experts who could defend against the attacks, and many days after the site went offline, they were able to bring it back up again.
