Gym Leader Flannery
Numel, Level 24 (Fire/Ground)
Slugma, Level 24 (Fire)
Camerupt, Level 26 (Fire/Ground)
Torkoal, Level 29 (Fire)
Money: $2900
Your best bets are water, ground, and rock Pokémon. Numel and Slugma are weak with bad stats, so they shouldn't be much trouble. Camerupt is Fire/Ground, making it weak to water. A strong water attack should faint it or leave it with very low health. However, its Ground typing cancels Ground's usual weakness to Rock, so water is a better choice.
Torkoal has high defenses and can be tough. It uses Sunny Day to power up fire attacks and weaken water attacks, then uses Overheat, a powerful fire move. But Overheat lowers Torkoal's Special Attack each time it's used. A Ground Pokémon like Graveller or Golem can take fire attacks well. Just avoid getting burned, which lowers Attack. Fight hard and you'll win. If you're struggling, train your Pokémon in other areas.
Defeating Flannery earns you the Heat Badge, TM50: Overheat (a powerful fire move that lowers Special Attack), and the ability to use Strength outside of battle. You can also now command traded Pokémon up to level 50. Halfway to all the badges!
