The 2024 GWM Tank 500 is positioned as a full-size luxury off-road SUV, combining rugged body-on-frame construction with premium comfort. In markets such as Australia and South Africa, it is primarily offered as a hybrid (HEV), while select regions also receive a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 petrol variant. The hybrid model pairs a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 78 kW electric motor, producing a combined 255 kW (342 hp) and 648 Nm of torque through a 9-speed 9HAT hybrid automatic transmission. It accelerates from 0–100 km/h in about 8.3 seconds, with a claimed combined fuel consumption of 8.5 L/100 km. The SUV offers an impressive 800 mm wading depth and 224 mm of ground clearance, along with approach, break-over, and departure angles of 30°, 22.5°, and 24°, respectively. It also supports a braked towing capacity of up to 3,000 kg, making it suitable for heavy trailers and recreational equipment.
In terms of size and practicality, the Tank 500 measures 5,078 mm in length, 1,934 mm in width, and 1,905 mm in height, riding on a 2,850 mm wheelbase. The three-row, seven-seat layout provides flexible cargo capacity, ranging from 98 liters with all seats upright to 795 liters with the third row folded, and up to 1,459 liters with the rear seats fully collapsed. Inside, the cabin features a 14.6-inch central touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a head-up display. Higher trims elevate luxury with Nappa leather-accented seats offering heating, ventilation, and eight-point massage, complemented by a 12-speaker Infinity premium audio system.
