A playthrough of Bandai Digital Entertainment's 1997 license-based FMV game for PCs running Windows 95, Gundam 0079: The War for Earth.
Played on the normal mode. I show the credits at 38:00, and the "History" material at 39:14. Finally, you can find a compilation of the game over scenes at 45:34.
After doing playthroughs of youtu.be/4fIY9c9JE_Y and youtu.be/RWeRUgVRGlI, here's the last of what I consider to be the "notable" Pippin games to be released for the PC in English.
Gundam 0079: The War for Earth (the 0079 is meant to be read as "double-o seventy-nine") is a live-action interactive movie that covers the beginning of the classic Mobile Suit Gundam (機動戦士ガンダム) story. It was produced by Presto Studios, an American developer that rose to fame in the mid-90s with their "The Journeyman Project" series of PC adventure games. The PC/Mac game was the only version made available in English, but a dubbed version was released on the PC/Mac, Pippin, and PlayStation in Japan.
You are placed in the role of "Gundam," a civilian who finds himself in a mobile suit fighting an army of "zacks." The story generally follows the plot of the original series, though it does take a few eyebrow-raising liberties with the character names and the ways in which certain events play out.
The gameplay is fairly typical for the genre. You watch a video clip, and when prompted by the row of icons at the bottom of the screen, you bash in a command. If you choose the correct option, the game continues. If not, you'll be treated to a clip of your mech exploding before being sent back to the beginning of the scene to try again. There are also some first-person adventure sections that allow you freely look around the environment, as well as a couple gallery shooter segments.
There is a ton of trial-and-error and repetition involved, the checkpoints are few and far between, and the gallery shooter minigames control terribly, but as far as FMV games go, this isn't bad. The hokey acting and the cheesy costumes are extraordinarily lame but charming in their off-brand way, the video quality is good, the production values are solid, and the CG work is excellent for its time. Though I would've enjoyed it more had I not been forced to sit through the same lengthy, non-skippable cutscenes again and again, I did have fun with it.
Presto knew how to turn a string of video clips into an engaging video game - I loved The Journeyman Project 2: Buried in Time! - and while Gundam 0079: The War for Earth lacks that game's level of substance and interactivity, it still comes across as being competently made. If you're a fan of the Gundam franchise or 90s interactive movies, you'll probably enjoy diving into this one.
If you'd like to see the game as a "movie," you can find my video of the game's replay mode at youtu.be/XJWV9-TRD1E

![Lorettas Portrait: Sherlock Holmes (SG-1000) Playthrough [English]
A playthrough of Segas 1987 adventure game for the Sega SG-1000, Lorettas Portrait: Sherlock Holmes (ロレッタの肖像 / Roretta no Shouzou).
For this video, I used Jamiras recently released English translation patch. You can find the patch at https://www.romhacking.net/translations/7526/
Loretta no Shouzou is a point-and-click detective adventure game for the SG-1000, the precursor to the Sega Master System. It was one of the SG-1000s final official releases (followed only by The Black Onyx), and weighing in at one megabit, it was notable for being the largest game ever produced for the console.
You are Sherlock Holmes, and youve been hired to investigate the theft of a painting from a local art gallery. As you poke around nineteenth century London questioning suspects and finding clues, it becomes apparent that the painting is just the tip of the iceberg, and you soon find yourself entangled in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse.
The game plays out like a PC adventure. You click on items to examine them, you interact with people and move between locations through a series of context-sensitive menus, and additional actions and places are made available as you uncover new information. Itll immediately feel familiar to anyone who has played Enixs Portopia no Satsujin Jiken or any of the MacVenture games.
What stuck out to me about Lorettas Portrait was how ambitious it was for an SG-1000 game. The machine wasnt designed to handle much beyond simple early 80s arcade-style shooters and platformers, and yet here we see a fully explorable city, full-screen background images, window overlays, boatloads of text, and a save system. As crude as the graphics and sound are, I cant help but be impressed by what Sega achieved with this cart.
