Veteran sports journalist Robert ‘Crash’ Craddock has warned that Australia’s biggest male golf stars could quit the PGA Tour en masse due to Greg Norman’s “tremendous pulling power”. Speaking on The Back Page, Craddock warned that LIV Golf chief Norman is a massively influential figure to his countrymen on the Tour, who is reportedly weighing up defecting.
Among them is newly-crowned Champion Golfer of the Year, Cameron Smith, who didn’t deny claims he’s in talks with the Saudi-backed circuit when asked on Monday (AEST). According to reports, Smith, the new world No.2, could be offered $130 million to join LIV Golf. Meanwhile, Smith’s fellow Australians Adam Scott and Marc Leishman are said to also be on the radar of Norman, who wishes to form an all-Aussie team, Foxsports.com.au can confirm that Leishman did hold talks with LIV Golf before this year’s Open Championship, although no concrete offer had been made. According to Telegraph Sport, Smith is committed to the rest of the PGA season but could jump ship afterward.
