In this part, Shamspeare says he followed the instructions on the note, but no one showed up. He didn't notice it was missing from his room, afterwards. Miss Green claims she didn't steal the note. Van Zieks is unsatisfied with this, for she has not explained how the note came to be in her possession.
Ryunosuke presses every statement, then presents the poison as evidence. He claims Miss Green broke into Shamspeare's room, in order to put poison on the gas pipe. The judge inquires about the delay between the poison being placed and the poison entering Shamspeare's body, but the delay is easily explained, for there were three days in which Shamspeare could not have used the gas pipe to kill Mr. Natsume.
The judge is quite surprised that Ryunosuke is accusing both witnesses of attempted murder. Miss Green admits she broke into Shamspeare's room, and she stole the key that he kept in his hidden box.
