Neverness to Everness is basically “Grand Theft Anime,” and after nearly two hours with NTE, I have a lot of thoughts.
In this Neverness to Everness first look review, I check out the opening story, combat, city exploration, driving, character system, gacha banners, pity pricing, fan service, graphics, Japanese voice acting, and the general feel of New Helios. My early opinion is pretty mixed, but mostly interested: the combat feels good, the graphics are phenomenal, the audio and voice acting are strong, and the game has enough style to make me want to keep playing.
That said, NTE also front-loads way too much exposition, throws a bunch of organizations and terms at you too early, and relies on the same tired amnesia protagonist trope that gacha games seriously need to retire. I like the story and want to see more of it, but the way the game explains its world feels clunky when it could have been introduced more naturally.
I also dig into the Neverness to Everness gacha system, which is one of the weirdest pull systems I’ve seen. The board-game-style banner is interesting, but I’m not sure yet if it’s actually fun or just a visual way to make the gacha mechanics feel more complicated. The pity pricing also looks rough, potentially around $220 to guarantee a character depending on currency and bonuses, which feels way too high unless the game gives out a healthy amount of free currency.
This is not a final review. This is my first look review after about two hours with Neverness to Everness. I still want to explore more of the city, random events, open-world combat, character stories, life events, and the full gacha economy before locking in a final opinion.
