Here's an ad for Sci-Fi Channel's premiere of "Godzilla vs. Hedorah" on January 20, 1996.
Previously, the film had been shown in U.S. theaters, television and on home video as "Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster." The Sci-Fi Channel had negotiated the rights for this film and for "Destroy All Monsters" with Toho, and although the films would now be shown uncut and in widescreen, the familiar dubbing fans had been hearing for twenty-five years had been replaced by Toho's international versions. In the case of "Godzilla vs. Hedorah," this also meant that the theme song (known as "Save the Earth" in the U.S. release) was also replaced by the original Japanese tune. These versions have now become the standard English versions for the films in the United States.
