The Globe & Mail recently ran an op-ed by Tzeporah Berman, April 10, 2026, that we think needs some fact checking. "Canada is Drifting towards Petrostate Politics, even in B.C." Berman is a well-known climate activist. She had delayed or stopped 21 oil projects. The op-ed makes eight false statements that requires corrections. For example, she claims that renewable energy is cheaper than electricity from fossil fuels, but that is false when back-up requirements to provide reliable power are included. Berman claims that fossil fuel production causes more fires, floods and extreme weather, which is contradicted by the UN's IPCC WGI AR6 report. She claims that climate-related disasters are costing more, but many reports show that damage costs from extreme weather as a fraction of GDP are trending down.
