When you give hand and bow drill embers a couple of minutes to coalesce, they solidify into a much hotter coal that will make your tinder bundle go to flames much easier. If you try to use the ignited dust pile too soon it will break into 100 pieces when placed in your tinder bundle and lose most of its heat.
