Jin Sakai, our samurai protagonist is battling the Mongol invasion of Tsushima Island with his uncle, Lord Shimura. During the battle, the Japanese forces are overtaken by the Mongols and Lord Shimura is taken as their prisoner. With Jin's family all dead, it's now up to him to rescue his only living relative from the Mongol invaders.
Normally, I wouldn't select English voices over Japanese (sacrilege in 13th century feudal Japan), but the English cast is outstanding and mostly Japanese-American. This also allows me to focus on the stunning visuals, rather than having to read subtitles during heated, high action moments.
