This is a first look at the brand new and very expensive GHD Duet Style.
Currently available in Black or White versions at £379
Note, it is NOT dual or multi voltage. It works in the UK on 220-240 volts AC Only!
It has been in development for some years and was just released on to the market.
I consider the looks, the practical functionality and the likelihood of a repair being possible now and in the future, accidents do happen and I repair GHD products with a dog chewed mains cable most days.
This is quite bulky and at 535 grams, not including the cable, may not suit everyone. I found the motor noise to be way less than a standard hairdryer.
The plates heat up to the optimum 185 degs as do previous models of GHD.
The hot air flow is relatively weak especially when compared to a hairdryer.
My main issue with the product was the length of the cool down period from 185 degs C to the 120 degs before the hairdryer side could kick in again. It just took too long for me to be happy with that.
I am concerned with the flimsy feel of the arm with the switch. It may be that the flimsy nature of the arm MAY stop it snapping if accidentally trodden on but only time will tell.
I do not like the arms hitting together everytime I tried to slide the on /off switch or press the button.
The mains cable is the same as fitted to earlier GHD products and hopefully we can offer a repair service for that if you accidentally damage your cable.
Overall I feel that this is a very expensive product, with a 2 year warranty, might not be suitable for everyone due to the bulk and weight. A 3 year warranty should have been offered as it was on the Platinum Plus irons especially at this price.
For my engineer colleagues, I will be tearing this down over the weekend and we will be having a much closer look inside.
