Go For Broke National Education Center’s staff received a warm welcome by community members and organizations during their January 2026 Boise visit. GFBNEC President and CEO Mitch Maki started the visit by speaking at Wassmuth Center for Human Rights, where he also gave the keynote address for their annual conference. We had an informative meeting with the Idaho Humanities Council, discussing bringing the powerful stories of WWII Japanese American veterans to the state. Dr. Maki also shared this important American story at Centennial High School and joined Boise State University history students for a lunch session and a guest lecture on “Restoring America’s Promise.” Special thanks to Idaho Humanities Council Program Officer Camille Daw—part of the team behind the 2025 “Courage and Compassion” traveling exhibit at the Idaho State Museum—who helped bring the Go For Broke spirit to campus and to Dr. Bob Reinhardt and Prof. Walker for hosting. The visit ended with a special presentation with the Boise Valley JACL, including a lively conversation about the WWII experience and its relevance to today.
We are excited to continue to enhance our Idahoan partnerships to share this history across the state and expand the National Torchbearers program. Together, we’re working to ensure the legacy of these veterans inspires future generations.
