German word order is similar to English... until it isn’t.
In simple sentences, the verb is always in the second position, even if the sentence doesn’t start with the subject. In more complex sentences, you’ll often see one verb in position two and another pushed to the end of the sentence.
This can feel frustrating at first, but once you understand the patterns, German sentences start to feel much more predictable.
