Once you’re comfortable with standard German time expressions, you may run into some very regional ones, especially in southern Germany.
In this video, I explain unusual time phrases like zehn vor halb, Viertel elf, and dreiviertel zwei, why they exist, and why you don’t need to panic if you don’t understand them right away.
Native speakers will usually switch to simpler phrasing and you can always ask them to repeat.
