From the German strongpoint 248 “Gänseblume,” located in the hills south of Boulogne-sur-Mer, only the group shelters are still accessible today. Where German soldiers once slept, French cows now live. In one of the wellblech bunkers a beautiful fresco can be seen. A German soldier apparently longed for his posting in Belgrade and for the local radio station there. From 1943 onward, Hitler prohibited the construction of this type of bunker because they offered insufficient protection against bombardments and heavy naval artillery.
