Gangstar Rio is the 3rd in the Gangstar series created by Gameloft, their take on Rockstars “Grand Theft Auto” series. Released in 2011 for Android and iOS, City of Saints is set in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), a setting not yet seen in this type of game as generally they are largely based in the US.
You are Raul, eager to escape the criminal lifestyle and start a family with his girlfriend, Ana. Before he has the chance, a bomb is detonated in his car, killing Ana and maiming Raul as a result. Multiple surgeries are required to save his life, causing many physical alterations to his appearance in the process. This new look allows Raul to don the name “Angel”, who now set on tracking down who tried to kill him and who took Ana’s life.

Another great Gameloft game, building on the last 2 Gangstar games and improving on them in every way 😁 I played this on v1.0 as I had heard there were some negative changes in future versions but after giving the more recent version a go, I definitely regret this as a lot of quality of life improvements were missing as a result. If you’re gonna play this one yourself, get the most recent update of the game! 😅 Still, the game was a blast to play through and I hope Gangstar 4 can hold up just as well 🤞🏻
