Tim McKay | Futaba SkyLeaf ST RC Model Build and Fly @TimMcKay56 | Uploaded 1 year ago | Updated 1 hour ago
This video will go over a Futaba SkyLeaf ST RC Model Build and Fly. I will show you the SkyLeaf ST RC model airplane kit as it comes in the box and take you step by step on how to complete the finished aircraft, to include some changes in the construction method that will make some items, such as the control rod linkage, much easier to complete.
The SkyLeaf has a color photo illustrated construction manual that you can download from the Futaba website. The instructions are very clear on how to build the model, in short there are no surprises.
Futaba offers a PSE-1 electronics pack that I use in the build of my SkyLeaf. This includes three servos, an electronic speed control and a PSE-15 motor. You will need to supply a receiver. I used the Futaba R3004SB for my SkyLeaf.
One item that is missing from the instructions is the all important center of gravity (CG) location. The finished model (with battery in place) MUST balance at the CG. The center of gravity is 20-25% back from the wing leading edge, right where the spar is located. I needed to add a bit of lead fishing weight to the nose section to balance out my model.
The SkyLeaf uses for channels of control for elevator, rudder, aileron and throttle (ESC). I used about 1/2" control throw for initial flights, and you can add a lot more for acrobatic flight.
I am 100% pleased with the outcome of this model. The initial flights could not have gone any better. The model handles well, is responsive and I look forward to future flights.
