Assembling more than 15,000 components into the world’s first spherical tokamak configuration HTS magnet is a major task. Our fusion pioneer this week, project engineer Anna Hills, gives an insight into the system assembly process for Demo4, our ground-breaking high temperature super-conducting (HTS) magnet project.
HTS magnet technology improves the performance and cost effectiveness of spherical tokamaks, unlocking the pathway to clean, affordable fusion energy.
Demo4 will allow us to demonstrate operation and test our HTS coils in fusion power plant-relevant scenarios for the first time. The learnings will feed into our fusion pilot plant programme which aims to demonstrate the capability to deliver fusion energy to the grid in the 2030s
