Detecting and discriminating between rain, fresh and salt water …
↓↓↓ Complete description, time index and links below ↓↓↓
In the previous video we successfully implemented the battery voltage monitoring, achieving an accuracy of ±10% (link below). We have still two unused inputs on our ADC. So let’s use one to detect water intrusions.
First we talk about the specific resistivity of different water types. After a short experiment we come up with a circuit to detect different kinds of water with our ADC. Finally we write some code to distinguish between rain, fresh and salt water.
00:00 Intro – implementing a water intrusion detection
00:40 Water – has a wide range of specific resistivity
04:26 Experiment – rain, tap and salt(y) water resistance
07:17 Circuit 1 – basically a voltage divider with an extra
09:34 Circuit 2 – buffer capacitor for the ADC input
12:19 Circuit 3 – expected readings with the ADC
13:42 Breadboard – sensor, two resistors and a capacitor
14:51 Code 1 – reading raw ADC values of the sensor
15:19 Test 1 – raw ADC values dray and with tap water
16:19 Code 2 – discriminating rain, fresh and salt water
21:17 Test 2 – with two resistors and tap water
22:37 Wrap-up – next up is the power supply, bye
