Mesa Ln @ 6.8 miles...notice the low apparent horizon...@ beach level
Lower 3 rigs are @ ~17 miles....large-ish inferior mirage visible behind and to left.
Saddle Peak ~2800 ft elevation @ ~71 miles...above Malibu.
High Conejo ridge runs ~2800 ft elevation @ ~50+ miles
Upper 4 rigs are 14.6 miles out at Hillhouse and 13.1 at Platform C
Low ridge to right has La Jolla and Laguna Peaks then Mugu Peak @ 1260 ft elevation... with all 3 about 50 miles out. Inferior mirage rounding the end of land to right of Mugu Peak. Can't see lower elevations out toward Port Hueneme and Mugu Naval Air Station.

$10.19.2024 Name That Refraction Pan$ $From UCSB 45 ASL Platform Hillhouse to C 1-17-21 4th day of warm January weather.... Lots of wavy heat refraction and undulating horizon at times... Is the boat to the left of C further than the platform? The reflections on the background ridge...at the vids end...should only be a few hundred feet above the horizon.....which should be at around 8.5 miles or in front of Platform C which is at 13.1 miles from the observer....$

$06.07.2023 Excursion Boats Pan 46 ft elevation ~64F Air ~63F Water ~50% RH + UCSB Mid Parking Lot #6 Low apparent horizon @ Mesa Lower apparent horizon and background boats / landscape due to their light avoiding cooler air between actual and camera? First part of so called upward refraction.....light goes toward the surface and enters the eye at a lower angle....effectively lowering the whole scene in general. Not all of the light is reflected back upward. Simple. Pesky Ridge still Pesky Strong Inferior Mirage.... Maybe influenced by the warmer water and lighter breeze? Boats are the Double Dolphin catamaran sailboat (buddy helped build it for a summer job in the 1980s) and the Azure Seas...a 60 ft tourist booze cruise special yacht, both out of Santa Barbara Harbor. ...$
