Low apparent horizon @ Mesa
Lower apparent horizon and background boats / landscape due to their light avoiding cooler air between actual and camera? First part of so called upward refraction.....light goes toward the surface and enters the eye at a lower angle....effectively lowering the whole scene in general.
Not all of the light is reflected back upward.
Simple.

Maybe influenced by the warmer water and lighter breeze?
Boats are the Double Dolphin catamaran sailboat (buddy helped build it for a summer job in the 1980s) and the Azure Seas...a 60 ft tourist booze cruise special "yacht", both out of Santa Barbara Harbor.
