Let’s prove them wrong.
Republican senators just slashed Medicaid and tried to sell it as a blow to “urban” communities.
Let’s deal in facts:
📊 White Americans make up the largest racial group on Medicaid - over 41%.
That’s nearly double the percentage of Black Americans enrolled.
So when the GOP guts Medicaid, they’re not just targeting Black and Brown folks.
They’re also targeting the same white rural, working-class, and elderly Americans who voted them into office - many of whom depend on Medicaid for their children, for nursing home care, and just to survive.
This is cruelty masked as policy.
And the Senators who voted for these cuts will soon learn that the pain they’ve inflicted is coming for their own people too.
But let’s bring this home.
You don’t need to go to Washington to witness government abandoning its people.
Just look at Evanston.
🛑 Mayor Daniel Biss and City Manager Luke Stowe have forbidden staff from helping gather data for the Evanston Property Tax & Rent Circuit Breaker Program - a lifeline meant to protect our elders and longtime residents from being pushed out.
Why would a so-called progressive administration block a program that helps people stay in their homes?
Because, like the national GOP, they’re more interested in controlling outcomes than supporting people.
And in Evanston’s 2nd Ward, residents asked for something simple:
A democratic process. A voice. A vote. A say.
Over 300 people signed a petition asking for a public hearing about a fast food development that would further fuel health disparities in an already saturated corridor.
Councilmember Krissie Harris told them it would go to the Land Use Commission for public input.
Then…behind closed doors…she reversed course.
She and city staff quietly moved the process to administrative review.
No hearing.
No public discussion.
No transparency.
That’s not representation. That’s manipulation.
And when a respected local business owner tried to raise the alarm, city staff showed up to intimidate her…to pressure her into silence.
And Mayor Biss?
He said nothing.
Silence like that is not neutral.
It’s complicity.
So whether you live in Evanston or anywhere else in the country - PAY ATTENTION.
Because the same power hoarding, the same disregard for people, and the same backroom deals are happening locally just as much as nationally.
Both levels of government land in your backyard.
Both affect your rent, your healthcare, your food, your future.
