In Cambodia, human rights defender Koet Saray is imprisoned for advocating alongside displaced villagers and defending human rights, democracy, and environmental justice.

Savey Phin, Secretary General of the Cambodian Human Rights and Development Association, sheds light on Saray’s case and the broader crackdown on activists and critics through the misuse of restrictive laws.

The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention found that Saray’s detention violates international human rights law and called for his release.

Saray’s story is a reminder that defending human rights remains a dangerous act in many parts of the world.
