Kazakhstan has unjustly sentenced opposition leader Marat Zhylanbaev to seven years in prison for his activism. His imprisonment is yet another attack on political dissent.
Arrested after calling for accountability for Bloody January, he was convicted in a closed trial on bogus “extremism” charges.
HRF has filed a submission to the UN Special Procedures demanding his immediate release. Kazakhstan must end its crackdown on opposition voices.
