When the Human Rights Foundation (HRF) began 20 years ago, our mandate was simple yet radical: defend freedom by speaking the truth fearlessly.

Twenty years on, we feel both immense pride and deep urgency. Pride in what our community has built together, and urgency because 72% of the world’s population still lives under authoritarian rule.

Across the globe, courageous individuals continue to stand up to repression. For two decades, HRF has worked to protect and amplify their voices. Today, that mission is more essential than ever.
