Fort Dorchester locate on the Ashley River across from Charleston. A powder magazine was built here for safe storage. The Tabby built fort was a strategic position in 1775. At that time it was fortified and protected by the famous "Swamp Fox" Francis Marion. British Troops occupied the town in 1780 but were driven out in 1781 by General Nathan Greene and Colonel Wade Hampton's command.
