In this video we make a few identical machine handles using a hand ground high speed steel form tool. Form tools are a quick way to create identical profiles quickly on the lathe. The range of profiles that can be created is almost limitless. The limitations of the process are total width of cut and material type. This technique works best on rigid machines. These small brass machine handles are decorative handles for a small cast iron surface plate. Material is 360 brass. Cutting tool is plain high speed tool steel. This tool was offhand ground on a standard bench grinder with aluminum oxide grinding wheels. Roughed with 46 grit and finished with an 80 grit. No further honing or polishing was done.
