When flying with only rudder, you control the airplane’s yaw. The nose swings side to side, but it also induces a rolling motion due to the difference in lift between the wings.

Coordinating the rudder smoothly lets you ‘bank’ and turn using just your feet, maintaining balance through yaw-induced roll.
