Known power settings are a great starting point.
You learn that “this RPM and this pitch attitude” usually gives you a climb, or cruise, or approach descent. That’s valuable. It builds consistency.
But they’re never exact.
Density altitude changes. Weight changes. Temperature changes. Even engine health changes. The number that worked yesterday might put you a little fast or a little slow today.
Use known settings to get in the neighborhood — then fine-tune with performance instruments. Airspeed, vertical speed, trim. Let the airplane tell you what it needs.
