Hamto Gechallris is an Abyssin who clawed his way from the scrapyards of Sleheyron to unexpected stardom. He spent his early years among twisted hulls and reactor slag, where he cobbled together a battered “power fiddle” from old parts and played for fellow junkers during breaks. One grainy worksite recording made it off-world — and somehow, against all odds, it launched a career.
Over the years, Hamto has built a devoted following across the galaxy. He’s part inspiration, part cautionary tale — known for his gravel-voiced charm, sudden outbursts, and a stage presence that veers between mesmerizing and unhinged. He rarely performs without a glass of fine Bahkata beside him, and he’s burned nearly as many bridges as he’s filled arenas.
“Flying Away” remains one of his most enduring tracks. The lyrics describe a quiet, almost ritualistic departure — not out of hope, but necessity. Away from a love lost, away from the wreckage of something that couldn’t be rebuilt. He doesn’t plead, doesn’t explain. He simply goes. Each verse sheds another weight: a place, a person, a memory. There’s no sorrow in the delivery, only distance — and in that distance, a strange kind of peace.
The chorus repeats like a mantra:
