On February 3, 2024, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a silver 2002 BMW after it blasted through a red light at nearly 100 MPH. The driver, Michael Joseph Gonzalez (19, Ocala), refused to stop and pushed speeds past 119 MPH while weaving through traffic, running multiple red lights, and forcing cars off the road. A PIT attempt failed, and due to public safety concerns, deputies briefly terminated the pursuit.
Minutes later, aviation units reacquired the BMW. Sergeant Lee and Deputy Manchester located the car pulling into the 7-Eleven at SW 49th Ave & SW 95th St. A felony stop was executed, and Gonzalez was arrested without incident. Post-Miranda, he admitted he fled because he thought it would be “fun” and that he could get away.

Charge: Felony Fleeing/Eluding with Wanton Disregard for Safety (F.S. 316.1935.3a)
Court records show Gonzalez was adjudicated guilty. He later attempted to end probation early, but the request was denied.
