A Common Raccoon (Procyon lotor) carcass draws scavengers as it floats in a pond at the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center, in Houston, TX, USA.
A Red-eared Slider turtle (Trachemys scripta ssp. elegans) picks at the carcass from below and pokes its head above the water for a moment. Flies (order Diptera) fly around the carcass, and their babies (maggots) congregate around an opening in the skin where a bubble has formed. I guess this is the circle of life.
