In this video, I’m flagging unnamed graves in an African American cemetery that began as a burial ground for people enslaved on the Davidson plantation. After emancipation, their descendants continued using the site for generations. Today, only three graves bear names—hundreds more are marked only by fieldstones or subtle indentions in the earth.
This work is about honoring those whose names were never recorded, whose resting places were nearly erased, and whose stories still matter. Flag by flag, we’re recognizing the lives that history left out.
