Join us at Green Mount Cemetery to learn about Martha Ann “Patty” Atavis, one of the few Black Baltimoreans buried here. Her grave is in the plot of the family who enslaved her and later employed her after emancipation. In 2011, the Maryland Historical Society (now the Maryland Center for History and Culture) acquired more information about Patty, including two rare portraits of her. We are grateful to have Lashelle Bynum, photographer, Baltimore Heritage Board Member, and frequent guest star, join us to help tell Patty’s story.
