Join us in front the Governor McLane, a now half-sunk boat that once battled oyster pirates in the Chesapeake Bay. For about 100 years, the Chesapeake Bay was like the Wild West in what was called the Oyster Wars. Maryland watermen fought Virginia waterman, state officials fought them both, and everyone fought the oyster pirates coming in from overfished places like Cape Cod and Long Island Sound. Thanks for watching and see you next week with another video.
This is our series called "Five Minute Histories." Every week, we’ll record a short video about a different historic place in Baltimore and post it on our Facebook page and YouTube channel.
