For generations, on hot summer days Black Baltimoreans flocked to Carr’s Beach just south of Annapolis. During Jim Crow, many Maryland beaches barred African Americans and the Black community had to establish its own resorts like Carr’s Beach. Here vacationers could swim in the Bay and dance to show-stopping live acts like Ray Charles, Chuck Berry and Ella Fitzgerald. We are thrilled to be joined by Vince Leggett, founder and president of the Blacks of the Chesapeake Foundation, to talk about recent efforts to save this historic property.
