On May 19, 1870, Black Baltimoreans hosted the largest celebration of the ratification of the 15th Amendment in the country. 20,000 people paraded around the city and ended at the Battle Monument to hear the addresses of luminaries like Frederick Douglass, Isaac Myers, and Hiram Revels.
