During the fishing season, small boats that line the crescent beach in Puerto Lopez, Ecuador head out to sea twenty two days each month. As the tide rolls in, crews of up to twelve men arrive to load the boats with everything they'll need for up to 24 hours on the ocean: food, water, clothing, bait, and giant blocks of ice to keep the catch from spoiling until they can get back to shore. It's hard work, but the reward is great; an average day's catch can bring in between $1,000 to $2,000 per day, per boat.
