On May 29th, Swiss airline Edelweiss Air sent their new Airbus A350 to Calgary for the very first time!
Edelweiss has been one of YYC’s regular summertime visitors for many years now, but they’ve been flying their Airbus A340s between here and Zurich since 2017.
As they start to retire their A340s though, it was kind of inevitable that we’d get their new A350s at some point, and this one was the fourth one to be delivered to them.
This marks Calgary’s first scheduled A350 service since the Finnair ones flying on behalf of Discover Airlines in the summer of 2022. Although it is nice to see something different, the A340s will be missed.
Thanks to the folks at the Calgary Airport Authority though, a few of us enthusiasts got to see this new visitor up close in spectacular fashion!

The Hawker Siddeley HS 748 is a British turboprop airliner designed in the late 1950s, and was developed as a 40-48 seat replacement for the DC-3.
As a result, it was built to be a simple and rugged aircraft that could land on unpaved runways and haul north of 12,000 pounds of cargo at a time.
A few of these still fly in Northern Ontario, and with only 5 of these planes total flying in Canada, this is one of the rarest aircraft types in the country.
So, for @MarkBrandonAviation and I, it was worth making another trip to Timmins, Ontario just to see Air Creebecs two HS 748s in action!

Edinburgh Airport is the busiest airport in Scotland and one of the busiest in the UK. I was there back in June, and with a very diverse array of visitors from North America and throughout Europe plus some amazing spots, its one of the best airports Ive ever visited for spotting.
