On November 2nd, the very first WestJet Encore Dash 8-400 in the new livery flew into Calgary!
This plane, Tail 401, was the first Dash 8 delivered to Encore just over 10 years ago, and had been in Muskoka, Ontario for the last three weeks getting painted.
Seeing as the first passenger 737-800 was also painted recently, WestJet’s new livery is now, finally, on at least one of every aircraft type that they fly. It is so good to finally see this livery on the Dash 8, and it looks fantastic.
Its first arrival here in the new paint was unfortunately after sunset, but it quickly re-entered service the next day, starting with this flight to Edmonton and back. Please enjoy this great looking Dash 8-400 in its new paint!

The Hawker Siddeley HS 748 is a British turboprop airliner designed in the late 1950s, and was developed as a 40-48 seat replacement for the DC-3.
As a result, it was built to be a simple and rugged aircraft that could land on unpaved runways and haul north of 12,000 pounds of cargo at a time.
A few of these still fly in Northern Ontario, and with only 5 of these planes total flying in Canada, this is one of the rarest aircraft types in the country.
So, for @MarkBrandonAviation and I, it was worth making another trip to Timmins, Ontario just to see Air Creebecs two HS 748s in action!

During the first week of July, YYC got some pretty interesting military visitors from the Belgian, French, and Royal Air Forces. These were all bringing troops and equipment for training at Canadian Forces Base Suffield, near Medicine Hat.
The RAF flies into Calgary fairly often, but its always this first week of July that seems to bring visitors from the rest of NATO, with the exception of the past two summers. For that reason, Calgary spotters unofficially call this NATO Week. Enjoy these special military catches!
