My Point of View
In business, first impressions and successful personal branding are not accidental.
Be intentional about the image, energy and credibility we bring into the room. People are immediately forming a view about our professionalism, judgement and likely value.
🎩 Know the Rule to Break the Rule
23. Q: What’s the rule for belt and shoe colours in men’s style?
If you wear belts, then the colour must match the shoe. Never wear a brown belt with black shoes and vice versa. If you are wearing burgundy shoes, then you need a burgundy belt and not a brown one. It is one of the most basic rules which many men get wrong.
👔 The 4 Vs of Executive Presence:
Visual - Do I look prepared, credible and appropriate for the situation?
Vocal - Does my voice tone sound calm and confident?
Verbal - Are my comments clear, concise and beneficial?
Value - Am I making a useful difference to the people and business around me?
🎯 Today’s Executive Presence Intention
Today’s meetings:
On-line sales call with a new client based in San Diego to go over my proposal for sales training for their Japan team
Podcast interview in Akasaka for Japan's Top Business Interviews with Asuka Kiya CEO of Coeface Japan
The impression I wanted to create: I want to look sharp for the podcast video recording
The Impression Construction Elements
Suit: Light grey Bird’s eye custom suit with fabric from Vitale Barberis Canonico Pratrivero 1663, notch lapels, Barchetta breast pocket, 35mm double cuffs, flap pockets, side vents.
Shirt: Custom striped shirt in the Winchester style with fabric from Lanvin Paris 1889 with white collar and white English Cuffs. Abbeyhorn Holme 1749 horn collars stays from Kirby Allison Dallas 2007.
Tie: Brooks Brothers New York 1818 navy dot tie in a Windsor knot.
Cufflinks: Gianni Versace Milano 1978 silver cufflinks with a Medusa Head motif.
Pocket Square: Isaia Napoli 1920 dark blue pocketsquare in a reverse puff. Stabiliser from Kuska Fabrics Kyoto 1936.
Watch: Vintage 37mm rectangular steel case Longines Saint-Imier 1832 S30 EFCo which has a black face on the dial and a steel strap.
Fragrance: Quercus Eau de Cologne Penhaligon’s London 1870
👞 High Shine Shoes: The high shine shoes were TLB Mallorca 1946 burgundy Adelaide Oxfords Artista series with a Picasso last and punched toe cap French calf from the D'Annonay tannery 1838.
✨ Today’s Featured Detail: The Burgundy Oxfords which I only wear with my grey suits and never with my navy suits. Burgundy is a great alternative to brown or tan shoes.
One Rule to Remember: I know some Italian gentlemen do wear brown, tan and burgundy shoes with navy suits, but I am a bit of purist and prefer black shoes with navy.
