#69. Q: What’s the rule for dinner suits?
When wearing our dinner suit or tuxedo we keep things simple. We don’t have any double cuffs, pleats or belts with the trousers. The white shirt with French Cuffs should have a placket that isn’t over ostentatious or frilly. The bow tie should be black and tied manually, rather than pre-tied. A discreet Presidential fold white pocket square will look great.
A cummerbund is fine, although I notice a lot of men have dispensed with them. If you choose a double-breasted suit, you won’t need a cummerbund. We don’t wear them often, so well before the next outing comes, just check everything is in working order and ready to go.
Especially check that you can still fit into it and don’t be like the comedy movie with Steve Martin in the “Father of The Bride”, trying frantically to fit into a suit that was purchased many years ago and when you were many kilos lighter.
