ICA Miami is proud to present a showcase featuring the global sounds of Principe Discos, a record label and music collective based in Lisbon, Portugal. Founded in 2007, Principe Discos specializes in batida, a genre of electronic music that incorporates folk instrumentation with roots in former Portuguese colonies—Angola, Mozambique, and Guinea-Bissau—as well as the African diasporic communities of Portugal. For this presentation, ICA Miami welcomes Nídia and DJ NF, two artists on Principe Discos whose shapeshifting rhythms and sounds have garnered global attention.
