Touching down in Khon Kaen, Isan, Thailand! Join me as I explore this vibrant city. During my first 24 hours after a journey from Laos. Despite the classic Thai downpours, I’m diving straight into the local life and visiting the night market around the lake. The rain put an end to the nights plans, so we pick up again the next morning.
My adventure kicks off with meeting up with Nut—a friendly local I connected with at the train station—at the beautiful Bueng Kaen Nakhon Public Park and lake. We navigate the streets, then explore a stunning temple area.
Get ready for some truly unique sights, including massive, towering pagodas and... wait, dinosaurs everywhere?! 😲 Discover the surprising history of why this Thai city is obsessed with prehistoric creatures(100 to 150 million years ago!), a fact I had to research myself!
From walking the busy streets and finding some incredible coffee shops to checking out the massive Central Khon Kaen mall and its food court with a view, I'm giving my honest first impressions of this major Isan hub. Is Khon Kaen the next big destination? You'll have to watch to see if it lived up to the hype I had in my "ghoulies"!
