What starts as a rainy travel day in northern Thailand turns into an unforgettable motorcycle adventure to Chiang Khong, a quiet riverside town on the Mekong River, right on the Laos border. After riding nearly 100 km from Chiang Rai through unpredictable weather, we check into a waterfront hotel, take in the incredible views, and explore this sleepy border town.
But the real adventure begins at the Chiang Khong–Laos border crossing. With my motorcycle parked on the Thai side, passport in hand, and visa paperwork ready, it’s time to find out just how hard a same-day border run can be.
Along the way, we discover local food, riverside walks, old buildings, hidden corners, and spectacular views across the Mekong into Laos.
