We all know that the right tool in the hands of a skilled worker can be a wonderful, productive and helpful thing. A hammer or saw in the hands of an experienced carpenter…. A sharp knife being used by a skilled chef. However, we would not want these instruments to fall into the wrong hands….the hands of a child.
Now imagine a firearm in the wrong hands.
We support, protect and defend our 2nd amendment….and the entire constitution. Many of our citizens are gun owners. This is a great freedom that has been given to us. But, with that freedom comes the great responsibility to treat our firearms in a way that is safe to ourselves and others.
Last year, 2018, we investigated 571 UNLOCKED vehicle burglaries. That number is down from 732 in 2017. But, of those 571 unlocked vehicles, 158 of them had firearms left inside that were stolen. Some of these weapons turn back up….at crime scenes.
This year, determine to be a responsible gun owner. Let’s work to keep those firearms out of the irresponsible hands of thieves. Help us make Marion County safer this year.
